Peace & Community Action (PCA) was
formed in 1999. It grew out of
Quaker Peace and Service (QPS) and
was started by a group committed to
helping people explore alternatives
to the use of violence as a response
to conflict.
A Board of Sri
Lankan nationals and one foreign
national, committed to community
peace work, supervises the team's
management. The board ensures the
proper functioning of the
organization legally, financially
and in staff employment practices.
PCA has a
mixed team of people from the
Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim
communities supported by one
expatriate and one
VSO volunteer. The focus of our
work is in the field; only four of
our team works in the Sri Lankan
capital Colombo.
PCA began as a
grass root level peace organization
and now has excellent networks and
relationships in the communities it
works with. At first we worked
primarily in Ampara, Trincomalee and
Puttalam Districts. Setting up
offices in Batticaloa and Matara in
the last two years has given more
balance: we are now working in
Sinhala, Moslem and Tamil-majority
areas.
