Conflict
transformation is a process by which
conflicts
are transformed into peaceful
outcomes.
It
differs from
conflict management
or
conflict resolution,
as it involves transforming the
relationships that support violence.
PCA
encourages Sri Lankan people,
communities and parties involved in
different kinds of conflicts to
express themselves in non-violent
and cooperative way. PCA helps
groups involved in conflicts
understand nature of their conflicts
and use these as an opportunity to
transform them into peaceful
results. It is a long-term process
that includes building of
understanding, trust and
self-awareness.
There are four main areas that
impact on conflict situations; these
are personal, relational,
structural, and cultural. In PCA, we
focus on personal and relational
changes because it is individual
people and their relationships that
are affected by conflicts on daily
basis. Their physical well-being,
self-esteem, emotionality and
spirituality are influenced by the
conflict.
PCA believes
that strengthening relationships
between individuals, communities and
societies is the only effective and
sustainable way to increase trust,
improve connection and understanding
between people and develop real
peace.
